My Texas Family

Posted December 12th, 2008 by Conrad

I knew and I didn’t know I had family in Texas. I kind of knew, but, and I am embarrassed to say this, it didn’t register in my mind that they lived in Texas, the state I was moving to. It wasn’t until another family member pointed out to me that my grand mother’s brother and some of his kids and their families all live in Houston. I hadn’t seen these people in years and except for my grand mother’s brother (my great uncle), I hadn’t really spent a significant amount of time with any of them. This was exciting though. I caught a lucky break by getting a job so cloese enough to them (about an 80 mile drive from where I live), so that I could spend some time and get to know my distant cousins.

This past Saturday I drove to the airport and dropped my rental car off. John Jr, my father’s cousin (which makes him my second cousin I think?) picked me up and brought me back to his home where everyone else was. We spent the day chatting and telling stories. I have fond memories of fishing, picking huckleberries and swimming when I was little with John Sr, so we relived those experiences. We also caught up on each other’s family noise. John Jr’s wife gave me an excellent tour of their beautiful home, although I was most impressed by their boat (a normal 20 ft open top boat, similar to the one my family had when I was growing up). I am hoping I can join up with them for boat trips.

When I get my shipment from New York on Friday, I will have my cable for my camera so I can post pictures I have taken (new car, new apartment). In the mean time, here are three pictures of me and my family from this past weekend.

John Sr and John Jr. Not sure why John Jr looks so pained in this picture.

John Jr, Michele, Susan, Maury, and David (John Sr’s children) are your first cousins, once removed. John Jrs’ children are your second cousins! Love Mom

Wow so I am a little behind, didn’t realize you are in Texas now. Glad you got to catch up with all the family there and John’s boat is fun:). By the way his daughters name is Katelynn!
