I am not joking. There is a bag pipe band based out of Beaumont, Texas. I thought it was crazy too. When I heard about it I thought it was a joke or a trick, but sure enough, they exist. Saturday night I went to mackenzie’s Pub in Beaumont – where they actually had an Scottish guy, albeit an annoying one – to watch the bag pipers perform. My guess is, this group constitutes all the bag pipe players for at least a 40 mile radius (once you get half way to Houston, aspiring bag pipers probably go to Houston to find fame and fortune instead of Beaumont).
