Welcome to Cut and Shoot, Texas: Followup

I heard a guy at work talking about Cut and Shoot, Texas. As usual, I was a bit shocked by what he said. The following quote is paraphrased the best I could. I assure you none of the meaning has been lost:

There are more concealed weapons licenses there per capita than anywhere else in the country. As a consequence, the worst crime that has happened there in 3 years is that someone had their battery stolen.

Incase you missed it, I drove through Cut and Shoot several weeks ago (read the entry). It was a pretty scrappy town. I think that when everyone knows everyone (population is only 1200), the crime rate is very low. In a population of that size, an average crime rate might mean that there is only one violent crime every 10 or 20 years. If you look at San Antonio’s crime rate violent crime rate, which is about 600 incidents per 100,000 people per year. Scaling that crime rate to Cut and Shoot’s size, one would expect 7 violent crimes per year. Considering there is a direct correlation between population/population density and violent crime, it is not unreasonable to expect the crime rate to approach zero.

In conclusion, I remain unconvinced that more guns is the answer.

LOL, after reading what the guy from work said, even before reading what you had written below that my first thought was…
The worst crime that has happened there in 3 years is someone had a battery stolen because there is nothing else in Cut And Shoot worth stealing! I mean seriously, driving through there and looking around there are no stores that you would expect anyone to try to rob, you just don’t see anything that even in a criminal mind would look like it is worth stealing…

Fixed it. I had a bad HTML Tag in my sidebar. Something wrong with the Facebook widget I had running there. I got rid of it. Everything look okay now though, right?
